UPDATED--- Kindergarten Sight Word Searches!!

It is my goal to analyze some of my older products and spruce them up a bit over the next few months.  Even if it just means adding cute clip art!!  Well, my Kindergarten Sight Word Searches have needed to be updated for some time now. However, it seems every time I am able to work on something, I start a new project..  So, today I finally decided to go back and make these things a bit more pretty!

I also was thinking about some of the wonderful feedback I received.  I always create things based on what I need for my own classroom... So I didn't personally want to make another pack of sight word searches just yet.. instead I added 12 blank thematic pages.  That way, all you have to do is add the words you are working on.

Don't they look so much better!!!

Remember, if you have already purchased this pack you can go download it again for FREE! I LOVE that about teachers pay teachers!!!

Five for Friday

We went to the Zoo on Tuesday.  It was Sara's first trip to the Zoo, and we had a blast!! She would look and look until she found the animal and then say hi.  I'll post more on this next week.

Speaking of the Zoo.. It inspired me to create a pack.  I am still working on, but I hope to be done by the end of next week.

My daughter had her 1 year pictures made.  I just LOVE our photographer! She always captures her sweet and sometimes diva-like personality! I cannot wait to see the rest!!!

The weather was just perfect to get outside and pull some weeds.  I was amazed to find new life coming up underneath all that junk!

And.. of course my dog wanted to help out.. She found a mole.  She is currently at Petsmart being groomed.. lol

I hope you all have had a great week!

Letter Sound Sorts

You know when you start a project and promise yourself you will get back to it.. well, that's what happened with this pack about 6 months ago..  I FINALLY finished it!!! haha

I'm sure you can imagine why I get so distracted...

This is my newest pack I've added to tpt.  It'd be great for morning work, literacy centers, homework, RTI and so much more!  There is a letter sort for each letter of the alphabet.  The only letter that is not beginning sound sort is Xx, and you sort by ending sound with it.

Fold it in half and cut down the dotted line.

Sort the pictures by what starts with the letter Mm.

Color the pictures

Then, glue them under the correct side.

Don't forget to write your name! :)

The first 2 people to comment below with their email can have it for FREE!  If you missed the boat.. click the picture below to check it out in my tpt store!

Phoneme Segmentation

As a part of my action research, I decided to teach the skill phoneme segmentation to a few different small groups.  You can check out this post to see my daily plans during this process.

We started out using the dot cards in the previous picture and the sound boxes to sound out words.  Kinders and little learners need something to put their hands on!  Some of them caught on really fast and others needed some extra practice.  Using the sound boxes significantly helped some of them.  Anytime you can teach with more than one of the senses is helpful (see, hear and do).

After doing this a few different times, we did a picture sort.  This was more of a group effort.  Especially since some of them were doing better than others.  Some of the best teaching comes when working with peers!

I always try to do both a verbal and non-verbal assessment.  I am reaching those kiddos that get nervous and have test anxiety.  We used one of the pages from my Phoneme Segmentation pack called, "How many Sounds?".

I also used a few other resources I had created at other times.  We used my Segmenting Sweets from my February Math & Literacy Centers pack.  Anytime you can use a bingo dotter gets you big points with them!

We used my Phoneme Segmentation Flip Chart.  If you have a Promethean Board, and want to have this excellent resource, click the picture above to see it in my store.  If you purchase my Phoneme Segmentation pack-- you can have it for free! Just shoot me an email with your tpt name and I will send it your way.

And, of course at the end we did a verbal post assessment.

Here is a preview of what's included in this pack:

And.. on another note.....

PS- If you stuck around to read this entire post.. I will give away my Phoneme Segmentation pack to one person.  Just leave your email and how you could use this in your classroom.  I will pick a winner tonight.

Peek at my Week- Phoneme Segmentation

I'm linking up (for the first time ever) with Mrs. Wills' Kindergarten for A Peek at my Week!

Since I am working on my action research, I thought I'd share what I have done a few days with my kiddos and plan to finish this week.  We have had a few snow days, so I will be back in the classroom tomorrow.

The skill I am working on is Phoneme Segmentation.  As you can see I have either created or found a variety of materials to help me teach this skill.

Day 1:
I found a video on Pinterest of words being segmented.  I wanted my kiddos to see in the beginning the skill I want them to master.  So, we watched about half of the video.  Next, we used those dot cards I found here to segment a few different words.  Then, we used my segmenting sweets from my February Math & Literacy Centers unit to practice.  At the end, for documentation, I assessed each child by asking them to segment 5 words each.

Day 2:
We used sound boxes and small gems to push the sounds into the box.  You can find these in my Phoneme Segmentation pack, along with the picture sort we did next.

Day 3:
We practiced tapping out the words again.  I had a few kiddos who struggled with this new skill.  Then, we used my Phoneme Segmentation Flip chart (they have Promethean Boards).  As an assessment, we did one of the printables from my Phoneme Segmentation pack "How many sounds?".

Day 4:
We will use the picture cards & sounds boxes again to refresh our memory.  Then, we will finish our Flip Chart.  At the end we will use our bingo dotters and do "Solar Sounds".  I will also give a post assessment to see how those kiddos progressed with this skill.

You can find almost all of these activities in my newly added Phoneme Segmentation pack on tpt.  Click the picture to check it out!

Check back later this week for pictures and a more detailed explanation of what's inside & how I used it for my small groups.  And possibly a freebie...

Currently...

I'm linking up with Farley for March's Currently.  She has a new blog design, and I have blog design envy.. I think I am going to begin looking for a designer.  Her's is too cute! I have LOVED mine, but I am ready for a change.

Here's what I am currently...

Listening- My in-laws are in town for the weekend and staying with my brother in law and sister in law.  They came to our house for the day.  Welp, my daughter's favorite thing to do is rock and read.  I told her it would make SJ's day if she did it before her nap.  She didn't mind a bit (no surprise there).

Loving- I have been working with small groups at my old school.  It's been a lot of fun getting back in the classroom for a few days, especially at a school I love so much!

Thinking- yes, I have a comp exam this weekend! I almost cried when I read over it.. but I have been creaking it up 1 essay question at a time, and slowing it has dwindled down to 1 question left.. I guess you can say I am stalling.. about to get back on it.

Wanting- This is self explanatory.  I'm ready for SPRING!

Needing- I am so OVER grad school.. I graduate in May!  I am proud of myself for sticking with it, and keeping a 4.0.  Sorry, had to brag for just a second, because I have never had a 4.0 in anything really my entire life!  But, still I am over this and want to be done!

And what in the world can tennis shoes, basketball, and a gym mean?????

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!! I'm off to do more writing.
