Book Talk Tuesday: Turkey Trouble

Have you read this adorable book to your kiddos?!?  If not, it's the perfect addition to any theme you have going on this time of year!

The poor fellow tries to disguise himself so the farmer won't cook him for their Thanksgiving dinner.  He does such a good job, they end up having pizza for Thanksgiving instead of Turkey.

As a fun family project, we disguise Turkeys to prevent them from getting caught on Thanksgiving day!

We used a different template, but click here if you would like to snag one for FREE.

Transportation!

Usually, I always do Transportation the first week of November.  It's the perfect topic to break up Halloween and Thanksgiving.  It also keeps the boys engaged (which can sometimes be very hard to do).

I always start with this book to introduce the unit.
We discuss all the different forms of transportation that pass by as they are waiting for the bus.

We do sentence building on the Promethean Board (this was super easy to make).

And, we do sentence building in a pocket chart and on paper.  I recently updated my Transportation unit and added a few things.  The car sentence building was updated to give you a different option.

There are 5 thematic math journal prompts.

We also discuss Transportation during Social Studies.  I like to read some non-fiction books and use this to sort what we just learned.

We LOVED to read the room!  Something about carrying around a clipboard made them feel important.

I also have 2 different thematic word walls in the unit.  I like to make a cute one (if time permits) to hang up and then one that can float around during our literacy center time.

Some of the other newly added items are the Boating Beginning Sounds center and the "What can go?" sight word reader.

When I give them a sight word reader during small group, we always highlight the sight word we are working on.

If you like these activities you can check them out by clicking the picture below.

Thanks for stopping by!

In Memory...

This past week was a very difficult one... We had to say goodbye to my husband's grandma and Sara Jo's Gigi.

She was a very self-less, kind, heart warming woman.  She put others before herself many times.  Although I only knew her for about 8 years, I was incredibly blessed to have her as a grandma-in-law.

Unfortunately, the cause was that ugly word we all hate: cancer.
She fought hard for 8 and 1/2 years, but she was finally able to leave the pain of this world and meet our savior.

She will forever be in our hearts.
We love Grandma!

Enjoy your wings!

November Currently!

I'm linking up with Farley for the November Currently!

Listening:
Thank goodness for nap time and the silence it brings. :)

Loving:
Fall Weather!!  Although, Halloween threw me for a loop.. I was ready for Fall-like weather-- not winter!

Thinking:
I constantly feel like I have 100 million things I should be doing at all times.  It's really hard for me to shut down my brain.  I was determined to get a blog post in today (the dirty house can wait).

Wanting:
Sara has developed a yucky cold or something.  We fly to CT tomorrow and I am not excited about her being stuffy during the flight... Please say a prayer for us!

Needing:
To pack!  We leave tomorrow.. so I should probably get on that.
Unfortunately, it's not for a good, exciting, fun trip.. My hubby's grandmother has terminal cancer and we are going up to see her one last time.  Prayers all around would be nice!!!

Reading:
A ladies Bible study I attend is reading the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan.  I have really enjoyed it so far!  Definitely worth the read.
