US Symbols Promethean Flip chart and student mini book- FREE!

As many of you may know, I had a Promethean Board in my Kindergarten Classroom.
Well, this time every year I would teach a mini unit on the US symbols.  I would use the flip chart below to briefly discuss each symbol. I tried to tie in my literacy & math with it as well.

You can grab this flipchart for FREE by clicking the picture above!

PS-I'm not sure if the font will transfer because I used a specialty font.. if it doesn't please do not leave bad feedback.  Email or comment and I will fix it ASAP!

I created a fill in the blank student book that follows the flip chart.  Click the picture below to snag it while it's FREE!

For now, the book is free on Google docs, but this time next year I plan to have an entire unit up on US symbols.  If you grab this freebie, please follow my blog and tpt store to receive updates!

US Math & Literacy Centers-- FREEBIE!

Happy President's Day!!! I hope you are enjoying your day off.  Holidays aren't just fun because you get some time off to spend with family.. they are also fun because you can plan a unit around them!

Here are pictures of my US Math & Literacy Centers.  I did not create an entire unit because I always like to pull from others.  So, I created some things I found useful in my classroom.  They would be the perfect addition to any unit!  There are 4 math and 4 literacy centers.

1.  Measure America:  This math center can be done with unifix cubes, die cut stars, counters, or whatever you want to use.  I have added a strip of stars for you to use if you'd rather just print it in color.

 2.  Eagle Addition:  Count the stars, dots, stickers, or whatever you use add em up and write the number sentence.

 3.  Colorful stars:  My kiddos LOVE doing these pages.  Give them a magnifying glass and ask them to find the color word on the star.  Write it on their paper and color the star to match.

 4.  Washington Words:  I thought I'd change up the CVC station and ask them to think of a word using the word family.  Then, color Washington to match.

 5.  Lincoln Letters:  Find the letters, circle them with the correct color and count to see how many you found.  I added the "Extra Extra" at the bottom, because my class ability is always so wide spread.. I have some that will take FOREVER with this, and some that will finish in 2 minutes.. This will give an added activity, instead of just drawing on the back for fun.

 6.  Bald Eagle Blends: Look at the picture, say the word out loud and write the blend on your paper.

 7.  Starry Sight Words:  Find the stars that match, build the word, write it on your paper and color the star to match.  My kiddos LOVE doing this center as well.

8.  Washington Roll & Cover:  And last but not least---- your FREEBIE!  Thanks for stopping by.  Click the picture to grab it.

To check out these math & Literacy Centers, plus all my Valentine centers click the picture below.  It's 20% off today!!!

Have a great rest of the day!  Follow my store and blog to continue to receive updates and freebies!

Five for Friday: Valentine's Edition

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for their weekly five for Friday!  I wanted to share a few things I have done in the past during this week.
First, I LOVE these little books you can make with Kim & Megan's "Cut a Sentence" pack on tpt.  After making each book we would add them to our book boxes. It's the perfect Valentine's Day activity (especially for when the principal walks in..)  Look, we are still doing academic stuff... haha!
This was what I had made for my kiddos one year.  I found these glow sticks at the dollar spot at Target.  It was a big hit!

I tried to do this bulletin board every year.  I can't take credit for the idea.. I cannot remember where I saw it though.. sorry.  The caption says, "Valentine Chocolates what a Treat!  Don't my Valentine's look Yummy enough to eat?"

And, of course it's not Valentine's Day without some conversation heart graphing.  I snagged this freebie off a blog a few years ago.  They are floating around everywhere.  I'm sure you already have one of these.
Finally, my two February packs are on sale today through Monday.  They are 20% off!!!  If you think you won't use them.. think again.  Each pack has some US stuff inside perfect for next week!

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

A magnetic attraction...

Along with all my other usual Valentine's activities I do this time of year.. I like to do a mini unit on magnets!

Here are a few awesome resources I found that are perfect to use when teaching about magnets to little learners.

First of all, I just LOVE brainpopjr!!!  There almost always seems to be the perfect little video to go with my lesson (especially science and social studies).  This magnet video helps little ones to better understand the simple concept of a magnet.

Next, you have to allow your students to be hands on.  So, I found this little freebie online to help them conduct an experiment and record their findings!

Click the picture to grab it.

And, I don't know about you.. but I love to play fun little videos or songs while my students are working or even to wrap up a lesson.  This one is short and simple, but pretty cute!

And, I had never seen this guy before.. but if you don't have brainpop and want a short, kid-friendly explanation of magnets- this one is pretty good too!

After conducting an experiment, I always like to do a project or activity where they have free reign.  I found this adorable little project from gingersnapcrafts.  You know the boys would be all over this one!!!

This is also another fun activity to let your kiddos explore magnets.  I like to do this activity with a hypothesis before.  Many of my kiddos would guess wrong.  I loved seeing their shocked little faces!

At the end of every science unit, activity, etc.. We always open up those science journals and do an assessment.  This is included in my Interactive Science Journals for Young Learners.

Currently and waiting...

I'm linking up with Farley for February's Currently!

1.  Well, nothing exciting about this one.. just have the washer and dryer going.  I don't enjoy laundry, but I guess you could say it's in my job description as a stay at home mom.. so it had to be done.

2.  I just went to a consignment sale for boutique style clothes for my daughter-- I may have spent a lot of money-- shhhhhh!  But it was well worth it! I also saved a ton too!!!
Yes, those are sparkly TOMS! Ahhh- so cute!

3. & 4.  I am soooo excited to meet my new sweet niece!  Since I have a 1 year old.. waiting at the hospital wasn't the best idea.. so, instead I am going stir crazy waiting to get a phone call to head down there!!!!

5.  I have been working on my February Math & Literacy Centers for a while now.. I am so ready to be done! I wanted to have them up at the beginning of Feb... but, oh well! I'm working hard though.

6. Two Truths & A Fib

Truth- I was born in Washington
Truth- working on my masters

Fib- only 1 sibling.  I have a big brother!  He will make the best daddy. Praying hard for their soon to be family of three!

This was taken the day we found out they were pregnant!
Love them!
